Frequently asked questions.
The common questions, answered plainly. No jargon, no commitment, just chess.
Yes. Come along on a Monday at 7pm. No booking, no registration, no phone call needed. Walk in and introduce yourself.
Not at all. We have complete beginners and experienced tournament players. There is always someone around your level, and coaching is available if you want it.
Just yourself. We have boards, pieces, and clocks. Bring your own equipment if you prefer.
The chess club itself is free. Because we play at the Kidderminster Harriers Social & Supporters Club, you pay venue membership of £6 for six months, plus a one-off £1 application fee. If you want to play in ECF-rated league matches, you will also need ECF membership.
All ages. We have players from age five right up to their eighties, so younger juniors are genuinely welcome, not just teenagers. The club has a strong record developing junior talent and is committed to the welfare and safeguarding of its junior members.
We play chess all year round. The league season runs from September to May, but the club stays open through the summer for internal competitions and casual games.
Eight leagues: Worcestershire Championship League, Worcester and District League, Dudley and District Divisions 2 and 3, Wolverhampton and District League Divisions 1 and 2, and Rapidplay Leagues 1 and 2.
Yes, there is free parking at the social club itself, off Hoo Road. We are about a ten-minute walk from Kidderminster railway station.
